Search Engine Optimisation aka SEO is the process, technique, or series of activities that helps us to rank on top of web results and drive traffic organically. People have made this term sound so critical that they people feel often think it is one of the most complicated processes but in reality, this is not the case. This involves activities like adding good descriptions, Meta tags, and headlines which push the Google algorithm to show your content on any related query and which results in good traffic.

3) Quality Content Creation – This is the basic because nowadays there is immense competition in the online space and to beat this competition you should focus on writing quality content that provides great value to users. 

4) Link Building – This is the technique to bring traffic to our website and how we can increase the average duration users spend on a particular page or our website. This involves two types of link building – Internal Link and Backlink.

The Internal link is the link that directs the user to the other page on your website.

Backlink is the link of your page added on some other website or blog or page and from where people come to your website.

Now that you understand some of the basic principles for doing good SEO let’s discuss another important concept named as working of Search Engines.

To be able to good SEO firstly you will have to understand the Google process that impacts your website ranking such as:

1) Crawling  – The search engine discovers and retrieves web pages using Google crawlers, spiders, or automated bots.

2) Indexing – Once pages or content is discovered then it is arranged and stored in the database to be retrieved later for the result of a search query.

3) Ranking – Google has an algorithm that analyzes the indexed pages to find their relevancy and authority and accordingly they will be ranked on Google search result pages.

Types Of SEO

There are various types of SEO but two of them are prominent and basic to understand in the beginning. Two key SEO types are On Page and Off Page SEO. Let’s Understand them in detail.

On-Page SEO – This involves optimizing individual web pages to rank higher and earn more relevant traffic. Key elements involved in On Page SEO are as below:

– Title tags, meta descriptions and headings
– Keyword research and optimization
– Content quality and relevance
– URL Structure
– Internal linking

Off-Page SEO – This involves activities to be done outside web pages to rank higher and generate relevant traffic. Key elements involved in Off Page SEO are as below:

– Backlinks
– Social Signal
– Online reputation management

Technical SEO – Involves improving the technical side of things, such as improving page speed

Common SEO Mistakes To Avoid

1) Keyword Stuffing – keywords are important to rank and help in SEO but adding too many keywords makes it look like spam and it goes against Google guidelines. 

2) Ignoring Mobile Optimisation – Failing to make a website mobile-friendly results in a lower ranking for mobile searches.

3) Neglecting Local SEO – Not optimizing a website for local searches will result in the loss of important traffic and push away your local customers.

4) Not Considering User Intent – Focusing on keywords without considering the user’s actual search intent, leading to irrelevant content and poor user experience.

While it may seem complex understanding the basic principles and following set framework and guidelines will help you yield better results.
